How to add Zoho Mail to LocalInbox

Add Zoho Mail to LocalInbox on Mac: turn on IMAP Access, use an app-specific password with two-factor sign-in, and pick the right region's servers.

In short

To add Zoho Mail to LocalInbox, turn on IMAP Access in Zoho Mail (Settings › Mail Accounts). If you use two-factor sign-in, create an app-specific password in Zoho Accounts › Security. Then choose Zoho Mail in LocalInbox and paste it. LocalInbox picks the servers for your region from your address.

Steps

  1. In Zoho Mail, turn on IMAP Access under Settings › Mail Accounts.
  2. With two-factor sign-in on, create an app-specific password in Zoho Accounts › Security.
  3. In LocalInbox, open Settings › Accounts and click Add Account (or use the welcome screen the first time).
  4. Choose Zoho Mail, enter your address, paste the password and click Add.

Zoho Accounts: accounts.zoho.com/home#security/app_password. LocalInbox's own button opens the same page.

Server settings

ServerHost namePortSecurity
Incoming (IMAP)imap.zoho.com993SSL/TLS
Outgoing (SMTP)smtp.zoho.com465SSL/TLS

For zoho.eu, zoho.in and zoho.com.au addresses LocalInbox uses imap.zoho.eu, imap.zoho.in or imap.zoho.com.au (and the matching smtp. server). On your own domain, Zoho's servers are imappro.zoho.com and smtppro.zoho.com: change them under Server settings.

Troubleshooting

LocalInbox says the password is wrong

Use the app password, not the password you sign in to the website with. If you've just made one, copy it again; it's shown only once.

LocalInbox says it can't connect

The message says what to fix: nothing answering at the port, the wrong kind of TLS for the port, an untrusted certificate, an unknown server name, or a timeout. Check the server settings below against the ones LocalInbox filled in.

Questions

Where does LocalInbox keep the password?

In the macOS Keychain on your Mac. It's never written to a file or sent anywhere except your mail server.
