To Reply and smart sorting

To Reply mailbox and automatic email sorting on Mac

LocalInbox sorts mail into Primary, Updates, Promotions and your own categories, and keeps a To Reply mailbox of mail waiting on you.

In short

LocalInbox decides every message on arrival, on your Mac. It files it into Primary, Updates, Promotions or a category you describe, and marks mail from people who asked you something you haven't answered. That mail collects in the To Reply mailbox, so nothing that needs you gets buried under newsletters.

The To Reply mailbox

Mail from people that asks you something, which you haven't answered yet, shows in To Reply with a Needs reply chip. Reply, and it leaves.

Set “remind me if no reply” on mail you send, and LocalInbox tells you when it has waited too long.

Categories that learn from you

  • Primary, Updates and Promotions out of the box.
  • Your own categories, such as “Invoices to pay”, filled by rules or, with Apple Intelligence, from a plain-language description.
  • Move a message to another category and every later message from that sender follows.

Rules, unsubscribe and a quiet inbox

  • Rules file mail as it arrives: by sender, recipient, subject or mailing list, to archive, trash, move, mark read, flag or categorise.
  • Create Rule from Sender in one click.
  • One-click unsubscribe, and a Subscriptions view of every list you're on.
  • Sign-in codes show a Copy button and are archived after use.

Questions

Does sorting need Apple Intelligence?

No. Rules and your corrections do the sorting on any Mac with macOS 15 or later. Apple Intelligence only adds filing into categories you describe in words, and a second opinion on suspected phishing.

Does LocalInbox move mail on the server?

Categories live in LocalInbox. Rules that archive, move or trash mail do it on your mail server, and every move can be undone.
